CARS: Call a Ride Service

CARS is a shared ride, door-to-door transportation service available to any resident of Mifflin and Juniata Counties. Transportation is available locally and for out-of-county medical appointments.

Shared ride means that you will share the CARS bus ride with others; you may be picked up a little earlier and arrive home a little later than you would if you were traveling in your own vehicle or by taxi.

Where can I go?

CARS will take you anywhere in the Mifflin-Juniata region, not just to medical appointments! Call us for transportation to any of the following locations:

 

Registration

All of the forms are required for registration, however; the Medical Assistance Form is only required if you have Medical Assistance. The MA Form requires a signature and date at the bottom left of the form only. If you wish to register for the Persons with Disabilities program, you must call the office and request the form.

Free or Reduced Fare is Available to:

All other passengers pay full bus-fare. Full cost of a bus ride is based on a round trip mileage rate.

Scheduling

CARS does not provide same day appointments and we cannot change your transportation request for the day of your appointment.  All transportation requests must be made by 12 noon the day prior to any appointment.  You may call our office during office hours to make transportation arrangements.  You must provide us with a correct pick up address and any directions needed to get to your home.  You must also provide us with the correct date of service, time and address of destination.

Cancellations

Each client is responsible to cancel their own appointments. If you do not intend to go to your appointment, you must call our office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., or you can let a message on our answering machine, which is available after hours.

It will not prohibit future rides if you call to cancel. You will need to notify our office of your cancellation no later than 3 hours prior to your appointment time. If you let your message on the answering machine, we will honor the time that the call was received.

Failure to call and cancel will result in a no show status for that day and appointment.  

Drivers are not permitted to take a cancellation from the client.

The SEDA-COG Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Draft Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Federal Fiscal Years 2021-2024 opened for public review on May 1st. Call-A-Ride Service utilizes this resource for transportation funding, grant management, and best practices as part of the local network of member counties.

Area residents and stakeholders are encouraged to review the TIP projects (and related supplemental documents) and offer written comments up until 4:00 p.m. on May 31, 2020. The TIP documents can be found online here: https://seda-cog.org/…/…/transportation-improvement-program/
