Protective Services Coordinator
The Protective Services Coordinator (PSC) works within the Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging and is responsible for receiving, screening, referring and maintaining records of reports of elder abuse as well as conducting investigations of neglect, abuse, abandonment and exploitation. The PSC completes assessments and develops care plans for seniors at risk, and refers cases for court ordered interventions and guardianship. The position requires visits to various settings in the community which include private residences, care facilities, and hospitals. This position requires a seven day (one week) on call rotation covering protective service responsibilities.
Essential Skills
· Bachelor’s degree with a social welfare major; or a Bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 12 college credits in Social Sciences and one year of case work experience is required.
· Completion of the Protective Service intake and Protective Service Basic Training
· Ability to read, comprehend, and apply government rules and regulations
· Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good spelling, punctuation and grammar are essential.
· Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and the ability to learn program specific software.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, consumers, community leaders and the public.
· Ability to understand and respect the needs and rights of older adults.
· Skilled in problem solving in normal and emergency situations.
· Ability to interpret policies, laws and regulations.
· Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the protective services program; the program and policy requirements set forth by the Agency, Department of Welfare and the Department of Aging.
· Ability to maintain a caseload of consumers in an effective manner.
· Ability to manage stress.
· Child Abuse and PA Criminal Background clearances are required.
PA MEDI Counselor
The Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight (PA MEDI) Counselor is responsible for providing free and unbiased health insurance counseling to ensure Medicare beneficiaries can make informed decisions about their health care insurance options. The PA MEDI Counselor serves as a backup Ombudsman and site coordinator for the Money in Your Pocket Tax Program.
Essential Skills
· A high school diploma/GED minimally required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Ability to read, comprehend, and apply government rules and regulations.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and the ability to learn program specific software is required.
· Understand and follow strict confidentiality and ethical procedures.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
